How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster. 1. Engine Speed Sensor The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors. If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40). spare audi key is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part. 2. Injectors Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When i crank the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else. audi a1 key replacement tried to reset the PID without success. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms. 4. ECU Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer.
